How Jebel Ali Container Storage Is Calculated
How the estimate works:
Storage is the terminal ground rent charged by DP World UAE Region for container yard space occupied beyond standard free time.
The period after discharge with no storage charge: indicatively 10 days for standard import containers, 3 for IMDG class 8 and none for IMDG class 5.
Chargeable Days = max(0, Total Dwell - Free Days). The first 5 chargeable days are billed at the lower daily rate, and every day after that at the higher rate.
How Dates & Free Time Affect the Calculation
- Calendar Day Counting: DP World calculates dwell on consecutive calendar days. Weekends (Saturday/Sunday) and official UAE public holidays count as active dwell days.
- Discharge Reference Point: Free time counts from the discharge date (tariff item 119; status
LANDED FROM VESSEL). - Gate-Out Stoppage: Storage stops when the container leaves through the terminal out-gate (status
TO TOWN). - What Is Included: Port storage only. Reefer monitoring (AED 155 per 24 hours) is charged separately and isn't included.
- What Is Excluded: Shipping line equipment demurrage, road transport detention, customs duties, and Dubai Trade transactional documentation charges.
- Why Results Are Estimates: The published DP World tariff is the baseline. Concessions, agreements or a newer tariff edition can change the actual charge.
